How is it calculated?

For DC and simplified single-phase AC, I = P / (V × PF). Resistive loads are often close to PF=1; motors and electronic loads may differ.

Example

Example: A 2300 W resistive load at 230 V draws about 10 A when PF=1.

What questions does this tool answer?

  • How many amps is a given wattage?
  • How is Watts to Amps calculated?
  • What inputs are needed for Watts to Amps?
WHAT CHANGES THE RESULT

Check these before using the estimate

Electrical and energy calculations are not final designs by themselves. Load profile, conductor conditions, protection, efficiency and local codes must be considered together. Sorsana tools are intended for preliminary sizing and scenario comparison.

  • Continuous and surge characteristics of the real load
  • Cable length, conductor material and ambient temperature
  • Battery, charger and inverter efficiency plus usable capacity
  • Manufacturer data and applicable local electrical codes
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why can motor current be higher?+

Motor efficiency, starting current and power factor make real current different from a simple P/V calculation.

Can I size a breaker from this alone?+

No. Cable size, installation method, ambient temperature, inrush current and local electrical codes also matter.
