CALCULATORHow much current does the same load draw at 12 V, 24 V and 48 V?

Results are for information and preliminary estimation. For critical technical work, manufacturer data, local codes and qualified professional review take precedence.

How is it calculated?

Approximate DC current I = P / (V × efficiency). At constant power, doubling voltage roughly halves current. Cable sizing still depends on length, temperature and allowable voltage drop.

Example

Example: A 1200 W load at 90% efficiency is about 111 A at 12 V, 56 A at 24 V and 28 A at 48 V.

What questions does this tool answer?

  • How much current does the same load draw at 12 V, 24 V and 48 V?
  • 12v vs 24v vs 48v
  • compare 12v 24v 48v current

WHAT CHANGES THE RESULT

Check these before using the estimate

Electrical and energy calculations are not final designs by themselves. Load profile, conductor conditions, protection, efficiency and local codes must be considered together. Sorsana tools are intended for preliminary sizing and scenario comparison.

  • Continuous and surge characteristics of the real load
  • Cable length, conductor material and ambient temperature
  • Battery, charger and inverter efficiency plus usable capacity
  • Manufacturer data and applicable local electrical codes
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is 48 V always better?+

It lowers current at higher power, but every battery, BMS, charger, inverter and protection device must support that system voltage.

Can I size cable from current alone?+

No; cable length, installation conditions and allowable voltage drop also matter.
